John's fledging Budgie Breeding business takes orders over the internet. Customers download and print a file from John's web site, fill it in with their name, address and details of the color and gender of the budgie they would like. To return the form back to John at the budgie factory they either fax it or scan and email the form as an attachment. Sound familiar?
When John called The Goldfish Group, together we hatched a plan. We transformed his existing PDF files into smart forms, allowing his customers to fill in the PDF form using free Adobe Reader on their PC and to save the file locally on their PC. To return the completed file to John, prospective budgie owners could simply email the form directly from Adobe Reader - no scanning and no need for a fax machine. Even better, when John received the form it is typed rather than hand-written so he will never suffer from delivering the wrong coloured budgie again due to poor hand-writing, missing information or a dodgy fax transmission. Also, by dynamically altering the form as it is completed we were able to reduce the form size from 4 pages to 2. And with in-built field validation we can be sure that all the vital information is completed. But there's more...
John's budgie business boomed - customers enjoyed the ease of ordering using John's new forms. But even with the efficiency gains delivered from much-improved data quality, John just can't keep up with the number of budgie orders he is receiving. John made another call to The Goldfish Group explaining his problem.
We helped John streamline his ordering process even further. John no longer has to rekey information from the PDF forms because now he receives all the data formatted as XML instead. We build John a software component to read the XML and automatically insert new orders into his bird breeding software and his accounting package. No more re-keying for John, and now he has a solution that can scale as his business flourishes!
